Pepper Hungarian Mexican Sunset F1

2018 AAS Edible-Vegetable Winner

Mexican Sunset Pepper F1 is a compact, high-heat Hungarian hot wax pepper well-suited for traditional gardens as well as urban and container gardening. Fruit sets early then prolifically throughout the summer bringing a variety of colors to the garden as the fruits mature. These conically pointed peppers produce a thick-walled fruit that can be eaten at any stage and as the judges said, the fruits just continue to taste better the riper they get! Great eaten fresh, stuffed and baked, grilled or pickled.

JUDGE'S OBSERVATIONS

  • “I had never grown Hungarian hot pepper before and was impressed by their ornamental value.”
  • “They matured from pale green to light yellow to golden yellow and finally to red- not all at the same times, so each plant displayed a festive array of color.”
  • “The flavor was quite good, especially when red ripe. We tried them raw in the field, raw in salads and as baked, stuffed peppers.”
  • “The entry averaged 7 fruit at a time, compared to 6 on each comparison.”
  • “Entry has compact habit, very high yield, earliness.”
  • “The quality of the fruit is superior in both appearance and flavor. Great for pickling.”
