An elaborate entrance to the State Botanical Garden was planned for 2020 but of course, when COVID hit and budgets were reduced, they had to get creative. So they: “looked to the heavens for inspiration and the light from the sky filled my eyes and warmed my skin.” Thus, the sun became their inspiration because the “Wheel in the sky keeps on turnin’.” This song (Wheel in the Sky by Journey) played as inspiration while the garden staff planted (properly attired and socially distanced) the AAS Winners in the spring. The sun makes an entrance into our lives every day and is, by far, the most important source of energy for life on Earth. The main feature of this year’s garden is the large cheerful sun hanging on an arbor in the middle of the garden, demonstrating the center of the solar system. Plantings of AAS Winners around the sun demonstrate planets, moons, comets, asteroids, etc.
