Facing numerous challenges, the staff at McCrory decided to place their AAS Winner Display Garden literally at the entrance to their garden. Plantings took the shape of hearts, the reason for doing so is best told in their own words: “As a symbol of hope, many people across the country have been putting colorful hearts in their windows; some to show their support for essential workers, some to bring happiness to their neighbors as they walk by. Whatever the reason, it is a simple way to spread kindness. We decided to do the same. Three heart plantings representing kindness, hope, and joy to our beloved Brookings community. Something simple and yet so powerful to connect with the public and bring them a bit of happiness as they walk or drive by. We learned McCrory Gardens is a place of peace in the heart of Brookings, and that the community around us is resilient. The challenges we faced this year made us a better team, stronger communicators, and better problem-solvers. We can’t wait to see what next season brings us. Bring it, 2021!”
