This spiked beauty claimed victory in North America’s trial sites to become the first ever AAS Winner from Japanese breeding company Murakami Seed. The judges gave this entry high marks in the greenhouse for the good branching, almost bushy growth habit and early to bloom flower spikes.
In the garden, Asian Garden Celosia continued to bloom on sturdy stems, keeping the bright pink color all summer long, holding up even through some of the first frosts of the season. The AAS Judges commented on the fact that this celosia was a pollinator-magnet, making this AAS Winner a sure bet for pollinator-friendly gardens.
Use a good draining soil mix with slow-release fertilizer. Be careful not to let roots dry out until the plants are established.

Asian Garden Celosia quickly filled in the spaces planted and added texture to the garden.
It has an attractive pink-red color and was a pollinator favorite. It did well in Zone 6a garden.

This Celosia is very easy to grow and has a very long bloom time, although it is an extremely prolific seeder. I planted a row in the back of the AAS Winner bed for added height in 2018 and mulched the bed well for winter after I had pulled out everything. After planting the new plants for the 2019 season, I have seen that anywhere the soil was disturbed where the new plants were planted there are countless Celosia seedlings coming up around the base of each and every plant that was in the area of the Celosia last year. This makes for a lot of work weeding. I will not be planting this Celosia again due to the prolific seeding nature. Would work great if that is what you are looking for.

I planted ‘Asian Garden’ in a bed by the parking lot during a very hot and dry summer. This plant loved the neglect and bloomed profusely all summer long until we got multiple frosts. It was a colorful welcome to visitors entering the gardens.
