Bred by Bodger Seed Company of Lompoc, California, Fire Chief was the first true red petunia to be introduced. Fire Chief, a gold medal winner, is a multiflora type that is extremely free-flowering and has a bushy, compact growth form. The deep red flowers are scented, unlike modern petunia varieties, and will fade to a soft, rose-red color.
